depth of field preview

A button or lever that allows a photographer to see the approximate depth of field at a given aperture. The preview button stops down the diaphragm from wide open to the current setting. Although this isn't completely accurate for calculating absolute depth of field, it is useful to analyze a scenes skeletal structure.
