exposure compensation

Over- or under-exposure of a subject based upon its actual tonal value (as opposed to 18 percent gray) by additive or subtractive means to exposure suggestions from a camera's reflective light meter. Modern professional cameras allow this variance to be automatically calculated by the photographer into the reflective meter suggestion.
